Flexibility
Pilates is a low-impact training method aimed at the harmonious use of every part of the body. The training focuses mainly on core activation. Pilates consists of performing exercises through slow and controlled movements, maintaining attention on breathing. This discipline is based on six fundamental principles: concentration, control, center, fluidity of movement, precision, breathing. There are different types of Pilates such as Matwork or Pilates Reformer.
Pilates was born in the early 20th century with Joseph H. Pilates, a German fitness enthusiast with experience in multiple disciplines (bodybuilding, boxing, circus arts and diving). His goal was to create a training method to improve people's psycho-physical well-being. He codified his technique starting from Matwork (bodyweight exercises performed on the mat) to the creation of innovative equipment such as the Universal Reformer and Cadillac. In the '60s the method began to spread in the United States until it became popular worldwide.
