Strength
Bodybuilding (or culturism) is a sports discipline to develop muscle mass, improve strength and endurance and reduce body fat through weight lifting. Bodybuilding has a mainly aesthetic purpose. The main goal of athletes is to develop very large and defined muscles and then show them off through specific poses and movements. Beyond training, the second fundamental component of bodybuilding is the dietary plan to follow.
Modern bodybuilding was born in the early 20th century with Eugene Sandow. He was one of the first bodybuilders to perform in shows to display his muscles and strength in Europe and the USA. Between the Forties and Fifties, the popularity of this discipline began to increase: gyms specialized in weight lifting were opened and various organizations were born such as the IFBB (International Federation of Bodybuilding & Fitness) by the Weider brothers, which since 1965 has been responsible for the Mr. Olympia competition. In the Seventies it became a global phenomenon thanks to the popularity of bodybuilders like Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Bodybuilding can be practiced by people of all ages and skill levels, but requires constant commitment and great dedication.
